1st Sundial Film Festival Spells Success

Area Events, Life in Northern California
March 18th, 2009

Jesse and Lyn Rosten and Friends

A SLIDESHOW OF THE WEEK-END

I have already let the “cat out of the bag” but I just couldn’t stand it anymore!

Yes, Jesse Rosten won BEST of SHOW at the 1st Annual Sundial Film Festival on 3-14-09.
His movie, “CART”, will never allow any viewer to look at abandoned shopping carts the same way.
Now I look at them and get teary eyed!  Now THAT is the sign of a good film!
Or have I gone mad?  LOL

The Saturday Night Awards Ceremony was in the middle of a rather full and amazing week-end at
the Cascade Theatre in Redding, CA.  The fun started Friday night when 6 of the 20 movies were shown.
All movies were either done by people who live in the State of Jefferson or who are from here originally.
The area includes Northern California and Southern Oregon.

About 15 months ago, the Sundial Film Festival idea came about when my husband and one of our sons Read the rest of this entry »

Sundial Film Festival - Marquis at Cascade Theatre

Sundial Film Festival - Marquis at Cascade Theatre

YOU WILL NOT WANT TO MISS THIS ONE!!

The 1st Annual Sundial Film Festival is scheduled for March 13-15, 2009
at the Cascade Theatre
on Market Street in Redding, California.

Tickets are available at the Cascade Box Office:   530.243.8877

Don’t sit out on this one, Folks!  This is history, I think, in the making!!

This idea emerged around my kitchen table in early 2008 when my husband - then President of Redding Rotary - and our son Will, a film school graduate, talked about so many other towns having film festivals.  Why not Redding?
Mark was hoping to come up with a viable sustaining fundraiser for Rotary.
The discussions went on for a bit and then… Read the rest of this entry »

Prescription Pets in the Northstate

Good News, Life in Northern California
March 3rd, 2009

Chloe loves visiting people

Chloe loves visiting people

It was a number of months back when I started talking to Donna Conrad about her involvement with Prescription Pets - an affiliate of the Delta Society® Donna and I use to work together at the hospital and I always knew about her love of dachshunds!  She was one of the founders of this wonderful group that visits people in hospitals, nursing homes, and the Women’s Refuge - to name a few.

I thought it would be well worth a visit to one of their training sessions.  This, I did, the end of February, 2009.  Besides Donna and KC Clark, RN and Krystle Conrad being there, I was greeted by some of the owners and their magnificent canine partners who work so well with people who are in need of a little lift in life because of recent circumstances.

Turtle Bay Museum in Redding: Gecko Exhibit

The gecko exhibit at  Turtle Bay Museum in Redding, California is a “must see”!  Bring the whole family!!  We went this past week and were amazed at the variation in their coloring, their shape, their feet, their eyes…

Turtle Bay Museum has  regularly rotating exhibits and this one will last
through April 19, 2009
This is a world premier exhibition and one you’ll have fun checking out.

Check this gecko out - protecting eggs that adhere to the wall via some sticky substance.  These eggs have been there for weeks!  It’ll be exciting when they finally hatch!!

The color and shape of the geckos cross a broad spectrum depending on where in the world they live.  While the gecko above is dark with white spots, it’s “counterpart” that lives in the tropics is vibrantly green so each can blend into their surroundings.

Redding’s Sundial Film Festival - Coming March ‘09

Area Events
February 2nd, 2009

Happy Kids by Relo Mary (Mary Lascelles) 4-08The idea of a Redding film festival was conceived in my very own household earlier this year…what evolved into the Sundial Film Festival (thanks to work of a very creative committee working on putting together a fantastic project) started out with a name quite different.  I won’t mention any of them as it traveled quite a ways to get to…

be named the Sundial Film Festival

The idea likely came about as we sat around our dinner table with our older son who attended film school in Sydney, Australia.  My husband, Mark, was President of Redding Rotary (ending in June ‘08) and wanted to come up with a project for Rotary that just might endure through the years.

Oh, the wheels of creativity were humming around that table.  You could almost hear the table trembling with excitement!!

Quickly this idea took off.  There are so many talented folks in the Redding, CA area who were interested in turning this idea into reality.  They started gathering on a regular basis at one of Redding’s popular Read the rest of this entry »

1st Time Homebuyer Housing Tax Credit

Concierge Relocation Services
January 13th, 2009

If you are thinking about buying your first home…

There is a $7,500 tax credit incentive right now for first time home buyers who can close escrow by the end of June, 2009.  This may be your perfect opportunity to buy your first home.  Prices are better than they have been and interest rates are good.

The government passed the 2008 Housing Stimulus that will apply to those who have never owned a home or those who have not owned a home in the last 3 years.

The home purchased must be your principal residence.  The tax credit does include newly constructed homes.

There are certain restrictions to who is eligible but you and or someone you know may be. It’s certainly worth investigating.  This offer is good only through June, 2009.

Most of us know of someone who will qualify for this tax credit.  I invite you or your friends to contact me directly.  I will be able to connect you, at no fee, to a quality agent anywhere in the United States who can fill  you in on all the details.  The idea is to be informed and turn your day dreaming into reality.

This could be one of the most important steps you take this year!  I look forward to talking with you soon.

ReloMary’s Bungy Jump

Places on the Planet
January 10th, 2009

VIDEO OF MARY BUNGY JUMPING

I decided to do something on New Year’s Day that that would ring it in big!
I wanted to differentiate it from any other.
I knew exactly what to do because we were in Queenstown, New Zealand over the Holidays.
There was something on my “to do” list I hadn’t gotten to and no time like the present.
The Kawarau Bungy Jump, started in 1988 by AJ Hackett, was screaming to me!Mark and I are getting truly tired of the news that is broadcast day in and day out.  Seems there is little right with the world when you listen to the news.  We know better.  It’s a matter of getting out there and living your life and finding others doing the same.
